Sissions Replaces Fleet With MAN
GW Sissons & Son Ltd. has taken the first two of 12 new MAN TGX 26.440BLS 6x2 tractor units with top-of-the-range XXL cabs. A programmed delivery will be complete early in 2011, and will signal Sisson’s eventual conversion to an all-MAN fleet.
When delivered, the MAN fleet will be fitted with MAN Fleet Management systems, including MAN EcoStyle, MAN’s web-based driver performance tool. Three-year R&M contracts are also included.
The company conducted an exhaustive cost-benefit analysis which saw the MAN TGX emerge as the most cost effective truck over a three-year period. It is fuel consumption, however, that continues to provide greatest appeal to the Leeds-based transport and warehousing specialist.
“In its first week,” said Bryan Sissons, “our first MAN returned just under 9.0mpg. It’s bedded in a bit now, and we’re seeing over 9.0mpg regularly. For our operation, and at 44 tonnes, that’s an exceptional fuel return – and all without AdBlue. I’m very much looking forward to the time when the whole fleet consists entirely of MAN trucks.”
He added, “I must also congratulate the team at the local MAN dealership in Normanton, Pelican Engineering. We’ve had a relationship with the company, on and off, since 1936, and during recent years they have been our sole supplier of over 500 trucks because the level of service really is second-to-none.”
Today, Sissons operates a general haulage fleet specialising in dry-freight deliveries with maximum weight curtain sided trailers. The company boasts a number of blue-chip clients; the largest contract involves the delivery of radiators and boilers throughout the UK for Stelrad Ltd. from its base in Mexborough.
Sissons is set to move from its current Sherburn-in-Elmet premises, from where it has operated since 1880, to new purpose built premises on the company’s privately owned 12 acre By-Pass Park Trading Estate nearby.
