MAN ‘package’ wins it for Chesapeake

Derbyshire own account operator goes for MAN again

Specialist packaging designer and manufacturer, Chesapeake, has received delivery of 11 new MAN TGX 24.440 6x2 tractor units. The trucks replace a five-year-old MAN TGA ‘fleet’ and were selected following a thorough ‘whole-life-cost’ tendering exercise pitting MAN against all its major competitors and other contract hire companies.

All 11 units are supplied on five-year R&M contracts, and are fitted with MAN MAN EcoStyle driver performance monitoring.

A double-deck 26 tonne MAN TGM rigid delivered last year remains in ser-vice with Chesapeake. The fleet is adorned in the company’s highly distinc-tive, vibrant green livery.

Long experience of high reliability with MAN was the final tick-box for Chesapeake after what it described as ‘a very competitive tender process’. Popularity with drivers was also recognised as a key factor by the Swadlincote-based company and, importantly, its excellent relationship with local MAN Customer Support Centre, Jeffreys Vehicle Services.

“We’ve run MAN trucks since the mid-80s” said Paul Oakey, UK Logistics Manager, “and we know they’re just about the most reliable truck available. We’ve also relied on our local MAN dealer, Jeffreys – with whom we’ve built a strong partnership. With MAN able to put together an attractive whole-life acquisition package, the decision to stay with them was made easier.

“I’m very keen to realise the full potential of MAN EcoStyle,” he continued, “We had basic telemetry on the TGAs, but, the technology has advanced so much, I see real possibilities to trim the fuel bill and maximise productivity.”

Chesapeake’s latest MAN fleet will operate throughout England and Wales from its Derbyshire hub. The company also has operating bases throughout Europe, United States and China.
