Fuel is Key for Keedwell

General haulage and distribution specialists, RT Keedwell Ltd., says fuel economy is “priority number one” as it evaluates its 400-strong fleet for operations over the next four-to five years. The news comes after two new MAN TGX 26.440 6x2 BLS tractor units enter service with the Somerset operator.

“We had two MANs on 55 plates,” said Stuart Keedwell, “and they performed very on general haulage and Tautliner work, returning 8.0mpg – and that’s good economy on out fleet.

“We were keen to see what the latest MANs could do, and, although it’s a bit soon to give an accurate appraisal, the indications are very good for the TGX product.” He went on, “I can confirm, however, that the drivers love them. Driver acceptance is most definitely not a problem,” he said.

RT Keedwell has recently secured all its major contracts for the next four-to-five years, and is already thinking ahead to a longer-term truck acquisition policy

“Fuel economy is priority number one,” continued Stuart, “and with our major contracts in place until 2015, we can take longer term decisions on the truck fleet. Although we use it in our fleet,” he said, “we are actually anti-AdBlue. If we get good economy from an EGR engine, then what’s the point of AdBlue? So, we’re keeping a very close eye on the MANs.”

Based in Highbridge, Somerset, RT Keedwell operates out of 11 depots nationwide. The company is known for its general haulage services, although it specialises in steel, paper-reels and brick & block distribution, and is part of a successful pallet network.
