Dawsonrentals takes 100 more MANs
Leading specialist asset rental business, Dawsonrentals in Milton Keynes, has ordered a further 100 MAN TGM rigid chassis for its expanding fleet of refrigerated and ambient trucks.
This brings to 150 the number of rigid MANs acquired by Dawsonrentals in the past 12 months, in addition to 250 MAN tractor units taken on over the same period. With these additions, MAN now accounts for some 20% of the Dawsonrentals fleet.
Talking about the decision to acquire the MANs, Group Managing Director, Steve Miller, said, “We respect the MAN brand as a quality truck and the price package was right for us. These weren’t the cheapest vehicles offered to us; but we have had extremely good support from the MAN team during our negotiations and that has helped considerably. At the end of the day we felt they were the best vehicles for the job and we are happy with the decision and what it does for our business. Rental is a competitive business and it’s all about having the right mix of products to be able to respond to customers needs.
“We do see vehicle manufacturers getting into rental activities in their own right, including MAN themselves, but while that makes us a little uncomfortable, we believe there is a world of difference between what they can do and what a company such as Dawsonrentals offers. We have some 9000 trucks and trailers in our road transport portfolio, and that gives us unparalleled flexibility and responsiveness to operators looking to find immediate solutions at times of peak demand.”
While Dawsonrentals manages all its own repair and maintenance activities across its road transport assets, it does place work routinely with manufacturer service networks and says that the MAN network in recent years has ‘definitely improved’, though it would like to see ‘more flexibility’ from manufacturers.
Dawsonrentals continues to acquire all its trucks outright and to manage its own used vehicle sales. “Selling used MANs has never been a problem,” says Miller, “and in recent times used sales has been a very strong side of our business. There has been no magic wand waved, it has just been down to a lot of hard work by our used team, and that has allowed us to benefit from the current demand for quality used vehicles.”
