CHAMBERLAIN TRANSPORT ON TRACK WITH MAN
Chamberlain Transport in Crewe, Cheshire, has taken delivery of a bespoke-specification MAN drawbar unit to service its Railcare contract. The truck, a TGS 26.400 6x2 rigid, is equppied with a FASSI F310 crane with a seven-metre, flat-bed three-axle trailer.
At the same time, Chamberlain has ordered 12 MAN TGX 26.440 6x2 tractor units, with XLX cabs, for delivery over next 12 months. The new trucks will be both fleet additions and replacements.
Chamberlain Trasnport runs 22 MANs, although its fleet total of 35 are all equipped with MAN Fleet Management systems, including MAN EcoStyle, MAN’s own web-based driver monitoring tool. MAN EcoStyle provides feedback on a range of driving parameters which, in turn, can allow drivers to adjust driving habits accordingly and become more productive.
“We were pleased that MAN adopted a close working relationship with us in order to draw up such a precise drawbar specification,” said MD Simon Chamberlain, “We have exactly what we want.
“We were traditionally an ERF operator but moved away when the brand ceased production. We went to the market for new Euro 4 and Euro 5 vehciles, and trialled an MAN in 2007 through Beech’s Garage, and have never looked back.”
He went on, “The support we receive from MAN and Beech’s garage really is first rate, and, by this time next year, we’ll be a 99% MAN fleet.”
The new drawbar and trailer combination is being operated exclusively on Chamberlian Transport’s contract with Railcare. Based in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. The company repairs and overhauls train axles, bogies and wheel-sets, while the new MAN will run to and from steel works, oil refineries and freight terminals throughout the UK.
