The MAN Buses fully redefine efficiency in scheduled bus services: through their common rail technology, MAN diesel engines combine high efficiency with economical fuel consumption and huge pulling power. At the same time the diesel engines are exceptionally reliable. In conjunction with the four-speed and six-speed automatic transmissions with topography-dependent control unit, optimum driving characteristics and outputs of 184 kW (250 HP) to 265 kW (360 HP) ensure each of the city bus models is an outstanding bus. Our models with six-cylinder natural gas engines (CNG) with 200 kW (272 HP) or 228 kW (310 HP) are also ideal for sustained use in inner cities.
Regardless of whether in winding streets or on steep slopes, the MAN automatic transmissions with a topography-sensitive shift strategy efficiently bring power to the road. MAN offers all buses with two different transmission versions. In conjunction with an optimum powertrain configuration, the transmissions improve the already good diesel engine consumption figures.
Voith DIWA transmission: The transmission is installed in all MAN bus series as standard. It features electronic integration in the powertrain, an efficient mechanical-hydraulic power split, as well as a high-performance secondary retarder. Additionally, it has the SensoTop topography-dependent shift program that ensures optimised shift speeds and a considerably lower fuel consumption for even heavy vehicle classes. A separate, maintenance-free altimeter automatically detects slopes and downhill gradients, and calculates the corresponding optimal shift points.
ZF EcoLife transmission: This optionally available transmission raises the input torques and continuously increases the braking torques of the integrated primary retarder by up to 650 Nm. Additionally, it features an integrated electronic control unit and impresses through a long service life. An integrated converter with torsional damping makes shifting in the bottom gears easier, and therefore improves acceleration. The TopoDyn intelligent shift program sinks fuel consumption by up to five percent by choosing from between five shift programs depending on the topography or load status.
