MAN's Salzgitter plant celebrates 50th anniversary
Federal Minister Gabriel celebrates with around 2500 employees and their families
A landmark anniversary in Lower Saxony: The MAN plant in Salzgitter has been producing commercial vehicles for half a century. The plant's origins can be traced back to Heinrich Büssing, an important pioneer of commercial vehicle development. Today, the 'Büssing lion' remains part of the logo for MAN Truck & Bus.
The family day on 29 June will be attended not only by the some 2500 employees and their families, but also by Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. Members of the MAN Truck & Bus Management Board Ulf Berkenhagen and Dr Carsten Intra will also make an appearance. At the heart is the 'Festival of Nations', at which global MAN production plants will introduce themselves to the Salzgitter employees. A further highlight will be a glimpse at the new Logistics Centre.
Stefan Meusert, MAN Plant Manager in Salzgitter: "We are proud to be celebrating the plant's 50th anniversary in Salzgitter. The family celebration is a chance for us to thank our employees and their families. The support they have provided day-in-day-out, even in difficult times, has allowed us to improve continually throughout the years and to become an important pillar in the MAN Truck & Bus production network."
Today, MAN Truck & Bus carries out production at the Salzgitter plant with 2500 employees covering an area of approximately 715,000 m². Alongside the MAN TGS and TGX product lines, the Salzgitter plant manufactures units and components, notably non-driven axles and crankshafts for commercial vehicles. Bus chassis are assembled on a separate assembly line and form the basis for our bus body customers operating worldwide. For the global Truck in the Box assembly plants for the MAN brand, the plant packages the complete assembly kits and takes care of the global logistics chain. A Logistics space measuring approximately 145,000 m² is available for the receipt, storage and dispatch of MAN original spare parts.
