Kesko Group reduces CO2 emissions with MAN long truck
Through the use of trucks for High capacity transport (HCT), Finland’s Kesko Group has solved the ambitious challenge of producing less CO2 pollution while improving transport performance. Since March, two new MAN TGX 35.580 vehicles have been used for this purpose.

According to the Kesko Group from Finland, one of their main priorities is achieving a sustainable carbon footprint while minimizing their ecological impact. The long-established Helsinki-based company constantly optimises its processes and operations in order to achieve this goal. Achieving a continuous reduction in harmful CO2 emissions remains paramount to the company’s logistics department in particular.
Ever since a pilot run with HCT-trucks, which started in 2015, Kesko has been using extra-long truck combinations when delivering supplies to grocery stores. The impressive vehicle combinations consist of a rigid truck and 6-axle articulated trailer, and in some cases come with double deck loading. They can be up to 34 metres long and, depending on their set-up, can transport nearly 190 roller containers at a time.
Since March, Kesko Logistics has supplemented its “Ecotruck” fleet with two new MAN TGX 35.580 vehicles for journeys to stores and warehouses in the west of Finland. The four-axle chassies come with an efficient D38 Euro 6c six-cylinder engine. Offering maximum torque of 2900 Nm which is already available at just 900 rpm, this model can smoothly pull even heavy trailers and imposing lengths totalling 31 metres.
Kesko Logistics also uses the cloud-based digital platform, RIO, in both MAN TGX vehicles. RIO has been available on all MAN trucks over 7.5 tonnes since 2017, and provides the user with a broad range of specific analyses for all vehicle data. In addition to route and location tracking, vehicle data during operation, fuel consumption and much more, customers can use additional service modules according to their own specific requirements, such as navigation or tachograph data storage. RIO helps to ensure optimal logistics processes by combining all data and information in real-time and providing recommendations for action. These, in turn, can help to significantly lower CO2 emissions for fleets.
