MAN Truck & Bus Demonstrates its Innovative Bus and Coach Range at BusDays Ankara Event
• Showcases environmentally friendly coach: MAN Lion’s Coach in EURO 5 without AdBlue plus EEV compliant for the Middle East • MAN Lion’s City bus portfolio offer highest levels of efficiency • MAN chassis solutions meet varying urban transportation needs
At the BusDays in Ankara, MAN Truck & Bus showcased the latest generation of buses and coaches for its regional customer base to reinforce its leadership position in urban and long-distance public transport. Among the highlights for the Middle East is the MAN Lion’s Coach which is now also available in Middle Eastern countries which have EURO 5 fuel quality. It complies with the EEV standard and operates without the necessity to use fuel additives like AdBlue. MAN’s versatile Lion’s City bus portfolio was also on display at the event in addition to various chassis options to cover individual customer requirements.
According to Franz von Redwitz, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Middle East, “The BusDays Ankara event is an important platform for MAN to showcase our innovative product range. Our varied range of stylish bus and coach models adequately meets the demanding requirements of urban passenger transport in the Middle East to cover every requirement while offering great comfort and safety. As the leading manufacturer of eco-friendly natural gas-powered vehicles, our CNG range of buses also highlight our strong commitment to sustainable transport solutions.”
The MAN Lion’s Coach has a special air conditioning and isolation package for very hot climates and offers highly efficient cooling even in the hottest areas like the Gulf countries. The coach offers high comfort for long distance travel and comes with sufficient luggage space of 10 to 11.5 sqm. Like all MAN buses and coaches the Lion’s Coach has been thoroughly tested for its aerodynamic performance, noise reduction, climate channel and impact resistance. The MAN Lion’s Coach is optionally equipped with GPS-controlled MAN Tempomat EfficientCruise technology and will be seen in a roadshow in the Middle East in a few months.
In the city bus segment, MAN showcased its flagship the MAN Lion’s City and the portfolio that covers the transport requirements of different cities. This includes the transport capacity aspect such as vehicle length and vehicle concepts (number of doors, internal design, low-floor, low-entry) as well as different drive types. MAN already has mature, sustainable, CO2-efficient and economical future technologies as standard features in a wide range of natural gas (CNG) buses. This is also reflected in the fleet of EGO which is the local bus operator in Ankara: The MAN component of the EGO fleet is 77%. 74% of the vehicles are CNG buses, all of them from MAN. This equates to 1,300 MAN CNG buses used for the city of Ankara - the largest CNG fleet in the world.
Beside the buses, MAN also offers chassis solutions for Middle East customers and provides a range of chassis for smaller sized midi buses, city buses and coaches together with selected body builders to meet different customer requirements. The coach chassis are optionally equipped with ACC (adaptive cruise control) which is a USP in this segment. For its city bus chassis, MAN recently received an order of 127 units from Bahrain. The buses are low entry city bus chassis which have been equipped with customized Caetano bodies to navigate through narrow streets with a high number of passengers in the same time. MAN also demonstrated the Lion’s Intercity bus at the BusDays event which is aimed at the large European standard intercity bus segment.
The MAN BusDays took place in Ankara, the main production site for coaches and intercity buses of the MAN and NEOPLAN brands. It is MAN’s largest bus plant (320,000 square metres) with 1,600 employees.
