ZF EcoShift manual transmission

The newly-developed ZF Eco Shift manual transmission makes shifting gears an extraordinarily pleasant experience, thanks to its ease of operation. Gears engage perceptibly. This considerably increases the safety of gear shifting. It also reduces the chance of shifting the wrong gear, whereby it is almost impossible to accidentally put the vehicle into reverse. Additionally, Intarder 3 allows for increasing braking performance by up to 20 percent.

Automated manual transmission
(MAN TipMatic®)

MAN TipMatic® is based on an automated manual transmission. Selecting the right gear for every driving situation, the system adapts engine speed during gearshifts. A manual driving mode is also available. The system can be operated via the driving range selector switch or the steering column stalk. The display shows the driver which gear is engaged.

ZF EcoLife automated manual transmission

Improvement of the ZF EcoLife automatic transmission with the Step 3 transmission control makes driving and travelling experience even better. This is achieved by smooth and silent gearshifts that don’t interrupt vehicle traction and offer a constantly high shifting quality with very little chance left for errors. Moreover, due to its optimised diagnostic capability with UDS (Unified Diagnostics Services), the new Step 3 software package enables vehicle downtime to be considerably reduced.

ZF EcoLife automatic transmission with TopoDyn Life shift program

The transmission is particularly characterised by higher input torque values and higher braking torques of the integrated primary retarder (increase of up to 650 Nm on the primary side) over a long period. And the higher service life as well as the integrated electronic control unit promise a real profitability plus. Better acceleration and easier gear shifts, particularly in the bottom gears, are achieved by a converter with torsional damping. Fuel savings of up to five percent can be reached with the TopoDyn topography-dependent shift program. In response to the topography and the number of passengers, the shift program automatically selects the best choice from the five available programs.

Voith DIWA transmission

The transmission is installed in all MAN Lion's City series as standard. It features electronic integration in the powertrain, an efficient mechanical-hydraulic power split, as well as a high-performance secondary retarder. Additionally, it has the SensoTop topography-dependent shift program that ensures optimised shift speeds and a considerably lower fuel consumption for even heavy vehicle classes. A separate, maintenance-free altimeter automatically detects slopes and downhill gradients, and calculates the corresponding optimal shift points.

The special features of this transmission are the electronic integration in the powertrain, the efficient mechanical-hydraulic power split as well as a high-performance secondary retarder. In the Voith automatic transmission, the SensoTop topography-dependent shift program optimises shift speeds to deliver significant fuel savings in even heavy vehicle classes. Furthermore, a separate, maintenance-free altimeter detects slopes and downhill gradients. The shift program calculates the optimal shift points according to the topography.
